Courses

The Hartlands Centre is launching two new courses. Given below are the outlines of both Courses.

Diploma Course Part 1 and Part 2

Part 1

This is an introduction to the full diploma: after completing the 6th month course, students will be able to use the techniques learned on their family and friends. They will not be able to teach or train others, or charge for their services. The details given for the Diploma are roughly the same, but first aid, health and safety and clinic management are not covered.

Part 2 - Full Diploma Course
Developing Your Inner Resources

  • Course aims:
This course will benefit complementary therapists, counsellors, the medical profession and any individual both for personal understanding and to benefit those working on a one-to-one basis with clients.
  • Duration
The course will take place over the academic year (October - June) via correspondence and a day workshop on a weekend a month to cover each module.
  • Assessment
Students will be assessed on an ongoing basis during the course through written assignments, practical session at the weekends, and a written paper on examination day at the end of the course.
  • Pre-requisites:
There are no formal requirements to attend this course, but if no anatomy and physiology qualifications are held students must attend this element within the course.
  • Qualification:
Diploma in “Developing Your Inner Resources”.
  • Course Structure:
The course will be presented in a series of 8 modules: the theory in each module will be taught via correspondence and homework to be submitted for assessment. The practical sessions will take place monthly as a day workshop at the Hartlands Centre to integrate the theory learnt and to provide exercises relevant to that module. The A&P element will be taught on the second day of two weekends within the course. A second day on 4 weekends will provide the A&P component of the course, health and safety and elementary first aid.

In addition to the course modules , the students will be given the following information in a background information pack. The skeleton or outline of this is as follows:

  • How long will I need to study per week?
It is expected that students will spend between 2 & 4 hours per week studying course units at home. For one day of one weekend a month there will be hands on and practical work carried out. This element is carried out at The Hartlands Centre or nearby venue.
  • How is the course structured?
The course notes and correspondence element for each of the 8 modules will be despatched monthly. Students will be expected to submit an essay and Q & A section at the end of each month. These will be marked and returned. Students must have an understanding of anatomy and physiology, first aid and health and safety. They must also be familiar with the Code of Conduct and able to demonstrate that they can apply the principles within this.
  • Recommended background reading
To be decided - there are 3 possible books being published at the moment that may have direct relevance to the course.
  • How will the study weekends be structured?
Students will attend a day workshop - 10.00am to 5.00pm on one day of one weekend per month. A list of bed and breakfasts locally will be included. On 4 weekends health and safety, elementary first aid and anatomy and physiology a second day should be attended. Coffee and tea available, and a snack lunch will be provided. The congestion charge does not apply at weekends, and there is plenty of free parking available. There are buses, tube and British rail station nearby.
  • Final examination
This will be carried out in London with two external examiners who will help set the questions, supervise examinations and mark the papers.
